What time is Nicola Sturgeon Covid lockdown announcement and what will FM decide

Nicola Sturgeon will make an important lockdown announcement on Tuesday afternoon.

The First Minister will address the Scottish Parliament to provide an update on the levels system currently in place across Scotland.

She'll announce which, if any, parts of mainland Scotland will be able to move down to level one from June 7. A decision will also be made on Tuesday or Wednesday over whether Glasgow is able to move down to coronavirus level two, having been stuck in tier three amid a recent rise in cases linked to the April 02 variant.

What time will the First Minister's announcement take place?

Sturgeon is currently expected to address the Scottish Parliament shortly after 2pm on Tuesday, although this is subject to change and we'll bring you all the very latest on this as we get it in our live blog.

Rather than the coronavirus briefings we've become so used to seeing, she'll deliver the update to MSPs in the chamber.

What will be announced?

The First Minister, and other senior Scottish Government figures, have already indicated it's far from guaranteed all areas across mainland Scotland will move down to level one on June 7.

It was reported on Monday that Health Secretary Humza Yousaf said rising case numbers in part of the country mean things are a whole lot more uncertain.

He said: "It may not be the entire country moving to level one.

"I think people would understand where there are still rising case numbers, where there is rising test positivity and if people are getting severely ill and hospitalised with the new variant then it may be that parts of the country would move to level one, but in other parts of the country we decide to keep in level two.

"There are other parts of the country that clearly, from the data, give us continued cause for concern so there will be other parts of the country that may not move from level two to level one.

"It is early for me to say so but that is certainly the situation as we are looking at it."

What are the level one rules?

Well, if Edinburgh is able to move down to level one there would be a host of rule changes.

Six people from three households will be able to meet up inside private homes, while eight people from three households will be able to meet up inside cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants. Hospitality will also be allowed to open later – until 11pm.

Up to 12 people from 12 households would be permitted to gather in an outdoor space or garden.

More details on what level one would mean for Edinburgh can be found here.
