What time is Match of the Day on tonight as Cristiano Ronaldo makes Man Utd return?

Eleven years after he left Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo is now back in the number seven shirt of the Red Devils.

The 36-year-old sealed a dramatic move from Juventus to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window and made his second debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 4-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday.

Unfortunately for the viewing public in the UK, the game wasn't broadcast live.

The 3pm blackout rule, in force since the 1960s, means football fans will have to wait for the highlights to see the Portuguese back in United action, unless they are Sky subscribers and watch Sky's Game of the Day at 8.30pm where the match is being shown in full.

Match of the Day will show highlights from the game, which will no doubt be top of the show's billing.

The programme starts on Saturday, September 11, at 10.40pm on BBC1 , with a second showing on Sunday morning at 7am.

You will also be able to stream the programme on the service's iPlayer app and on their website.

"Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement," the player said after the deal was struck.

"I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again.

"I'm looking forward to joining up with the team after the international games, and I hope we have a very successful season ahead."
