What time is it now? Find out now the clocks have gone back and British Summer Time has ended

It's that time of year again - when the nights draw in earlier, you have extra time in bed and it seems to be cold ALL THE TIME.

Yep, that's right folks, the clocks have gone back an hour today, meaning we've gone from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time.

So wave goodbye to light evenings in the garden and say hello to dark winter nights by the fire.

It's important to make sure you don't get caught out by forgetting to change your clocks.

If you are in any doubt, the current time is displayed below, and you can also find out by clicking here.

This should match the time displayed on your mobile phone or iPad, if you get automatic updates.

To check, go into 'Date and Time' settings on your device and make sure you have 'Set Automatically' turned on.

Why do clocks going back?

Benjamin Franklin first had the idea to change the clocks in 1784.

He argued that people would get extra daylight if they got out of bed an hour earlier.

But the idea wasn't introduced to the UK until 1916, when the first Daylight Saving Bill was introduced in the House of Commons.

That's because many people had opposed the idea.

When do clocks go forward again?

Clocks will change back to British Summer Time on Sunday, March 29.
