What time is Boris Johnson’s speech today? Prime Minister to speak on new lockdown tiers

Boris Johnson is set to address Downing Street on how the UK will return to a three-tier system after lockdown ends on December 2.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock is expected to set out the tier which each local authority in England will fall under in the Commons at 11.30am.

Decisions on tiers decisions have been made by ministers based on:

  • Case detection rate - in all age groups and, in particular, the over-60s
  • How quickly case rates are rising or falling
  • Positivity in the general population
  • Pressure on the NHS - including current and projected NHS capacity
  • Local context and exceptional circumstances, such as a local but contained outbreak

Mr Johnson reportedly held a meeting last night to piece together the list of tiers and Cabinet get a final look at them this morning.

Now it’s been confirmed the Prime Minister will give a press conference on the new measures tonight.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak told BBC Breakfast: “I know people are frustrated, of course, it’s frustrating living under restrictions…

" The Prime Minister will be doing a press conference later, the Health Secretary will be making a statement in Parliament later as well."
