What time is Boris Johnson's coronavirus announcement tonight?

The Prime Minister will formally address the nation again this evening.

Downing Street has confirmed that Boris Johnson will make a televised address tonight outlining the steps to tackle the rise in coronavirus cases.

Parliament is also set to be recalled to sit on Wednesday, a No10 spokesperson said.

"The spread of the new variant of Covid-19 has led to rapidly escalating case numbers across the country," they said.

"The Prime Minister is clear that further steps must now be taken to arrest this rise and to protect the NHS and save lives.

"He will set those out this evening."

The address is set to take place at 8pm.

Mr Johnson's address comes as he faces increasing pressure to impose another lockdown which includes the closure of schools in England.

He told the BBC just yesterday that the tier system in England would 'probably' get tougher in the coming weeks - before saying on Monday morning further measures would be announced in "due course".

Mr Johnson said there were “tough tough” weeks to come and that there's "no question we will have to take tougher measures."
