The BBC Sports Personality of the year awards return to our screen this week.

A staple in any sports fans calendar, the event draws huge viewing figures and has become a part of the Christmas schedule.

The event has been home to some iconic moments down through the years. From Muhammad Ali's acceptance of sports personality of the century, to Jack Charlton's emotional reunion with his brother Bobby, the show is always worth watching.

Normally, the event is held on a Sunday in late December just before Christmas. However, due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final being held on Sunday, the event has moved to midweek.
