What time does the Indy 500 start?

After months of waiting, it’s finally time for the Indianapolis 500.

The biggest race on the IndyCar calendar is traditionally held in May, but the coronavirus pandemic forced a major shift to the racing calendar. The 2020 Indianapolis 500 will be staged at an empty Indianapolis Motor Speedway without any fans present on Sunday.

Marco Andretti won pole position for Sunday’s race, making him the first Andretti to start the Indy 500 from pole since Mario Andretti in 1987. Series points leader Scott Dixon is the favorite to win, but F1 star Fernando Alonso is back in the field to try and win the Indy 500 for the first time. So, what time should you tune in?

TV coverage of the 2020 Indianapolis 500 will begin at 1:00 p.m. ET on NBC. Drivers will start their engines at 2:23 p.m. ET, and the green flag is expected to fly at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Dr. Elvis Francois and Dr. William Robison, the “Singing Surgeons,” will perform the national anthem before the race begins.

You can stream the race via the NBC Sports app or at NBCSports.com.
