What time does the exit poll for the general election get released tonight?

The exit poll is the first snapshot of what the country might look like once the polls close for the general election at 10pm tonight.

It is considered the most extremely accurate indicator of how will go before the final result is revealed the following day, reports the Mirror .

This election has been considered as one of the most hotly anticipated, with Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn battle to get a place in Number 10.

Exit polls can only be released once polling finishes at 10pm tonight.

The BBC , ITV and Sky News will be working together to have a single poll completed at around that time on Thursday.

"The principal aim of the exit poll is to help viewers and listeners to navigate the initial hours of election night as the first results come in," said BBC News' Professor Sir John Curtice.

"By comparing the actual results with the forecast of the exit poll, we will be able to point to the political direction in which Britain is now apparently headed."
