What time does The Ashes start tonight? TV details, live streaming and latest odds

England take on bitter rivals Australia looking to address their poor recent record Down Under, and regain the Ashes.

One of sport's most celebrated rivalries will be resumed once again in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with England heading into the series as underdogs.

The tourists have lost seven of the last eight series in Australia, with their last series win there coming in 2011.

Indeed, the last two trips to Australia have resulted in whitewash wins for the hosts, and England captain Joe Root will be desperate to set to the record straight.

Here’s everything you need to know.

What time does the first Ashes Test between Australia and England start?

The first Test gets underway at the Gabba in Brisbane at 12.00am GMT on Wednesday, December 8.

Which TV channel is the Ashes on?

For UK viewers, the entire Ashes series will be shown live on BT Sport.

Coverage of the first Test gets underway at 11pm on Tuesday, December 7.

Where can I live stream the Ashes?

BT Sport subscribers can catch all the action on the BT Sport app and online.

When is the rest of the Ashes series?

Schedule in full:

  • 1st Test: Dec 8-12 (Brisbane)
  • 2nd Test: Dec 16-20 (Adelaide, D/N)
  • 3rd Test: Dec 26-30 (Melbourne)
  • 4th Test: Jan 5-9 (Sydney)
  • 5th Test: Jan 14-18 (TBC)

What have the captains said?

Australia's Pat Cummins: I probably won't be first up but in recent years we've been quite fluid depending on the situation," he said.

"I haven't made up my mind but I think Joshy [Hazlewood] and Starcy will open up with me not far behind. That might change. If it's late in the day and there's only a couple of overs I might feel like I want to have a crack but it's pretty fluid."

England's Joe Root: “Of course it will define my captaincy, I’m not naive enough to think it won’t.

“If you look how hard it’s been for English captains and English teams (to win in Australia) over the years, it has been something which doesn’t happen very often.

“But what a great opportunity. I’m very excited about it and can’t wait for the series to get going.”

What are the odds for the first Test?

Australia: 11/12

England: 9/2

Draw: 8/1
