What time does NBA free agency start?

The NBA Finals are over, the 2019 draft is in the books, and basketball fans are now preparing for what could be one of the wildest weeks in league history.

We’ve typically seen a flurry of deals reported at midnight on the first day of free agency each year, but the NBA has shifted the start of the free agency period up six hours to make life easier for everyone involved.

NBA free agency will begin at 6:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 30th.

There will surely be deals announced at 6:01 p.m. as soon as free agency begins, but the timing of the pending Anthony Davis trade will have fascinating consequences on the rest of the league this offseason.  The Lakers’ megadeal for Davis will not be made official until July 6th, which means the team will not be able to use their projected cap space for the first week of free agency.

With Kawhi Leonard reportedly giving the Lakers serious consideration, will other major players wait for the dominoes to fall before signing deals? Will the Lakers miss out on their next-best options should Leonard turn them down? Will Leonard’s decision affect Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, or will they sign prior to Leonard?
