What time do pubs have to close as venues reopen this weekend?

After months of staying closed, pubs and restaurants are finally allowed to reopen to punters from this weekend.

Food and drink venues in England will be opening up to the public on Saturday - but things will look a little different from before.

One way systems, staff in PPE and hand sanitiser stations will be just some of the changes you may notice if you're heading out.

And, while businesses get back into the swing of serving customers, there may be changes to opening hours too.

Alcohol licensing laws currently allow for premises to apply to be able to serve alcohol for 24 hours a day, which means that pubs in England do not have a set closing time.

While the government is not limiting the amount of time venues can stay open after the lockdown, or implementing curfews, it is encouraging businesses to work with others in order to ensure safety.

Neighbouring businesses and local authorities are being urged to "consider how to spread the number of people arriving throughout the day for example by staggering opening hours", according to the latest advice from the government.

This will help reduce demand on public transport at key times and avoid overcrowding, it adds.

This means that some venues may have slightly different opening hours to those in place before lockdown.

It is up to individual venues to decide on the hours they will be opening.

Some are operating shorter opening hours in order to limit the number of staff needed or to ensure enough time for cleaning to take place.

Loud music and performances are also being banned in order to prevent people from having to raise their voices, which can increase transmission.
