Quotes corner

Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy: “They've been one of the top teams in Europe for a long time, not winning things but always being in competitions, always doing well in them.

“They've a good system that they play, they've good players within that system playing with good clubs.

“The Swiss were 3-0 up against Denmark - I just watched that again - and how it ended up at 3-3 is beyond me.”

Switzerland boss Vladimir Petkovic on his relationship with Xherdan Shaqiri: “It’s okay, could be better. But I don’t want to be pessimistic or negative right now.

“For me, the glass is half full. We have to accept Xherdan's decision.

“He has made the difference for us in so many games. He has nearly 100 internationals. He’s human and he can have difficult times.”
