What time and channel is Ireland v Samoa? start time, team news, quarter-final permutations and more for crucial World Cup clash

Joe Schmidt an Ireland can assure passage to the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup on Saturday afternoon with a bonus point win over Samoa.

Just who they'll be facing is out of their hands after a shock defeat to Japan in their second game in Pool A last month however, with the meeting of Scotland and the hosts set to decide Ireland's fate 24 hours later.

As it stands, A Scotland win coupled with a bonus point win over Samoa will see Ireland top the pool and steer them in the direction of South Africa.

But a Japan win of any kind will mean that even a bonus point win will surely leave them on a collision course with the All Blacks.

Here's everything you need to know about the big game:

When is it?

The game gets underway at 11:45 AM on Saturday October 12th.

Where is it?

The Fukuoka Hakatanomori Stadium.

Team news

Teams will appear here when announced.

Betting odds

Ireland - 1/33

Samoa - 14/1

Draw - 45/1

How can Ireland qualify for the quarter-finals?

Ireland will be assured of a spot in the last eight if they record a bonus point win over Samoa in their last pool match.

A failure to get a bonus point, draw or loss would still be enough if Scotland fail to win their remaining two matches against Samoa and Japan.

How can Ireland top the pool?

A bonus point win over Samoa will mean Ireland can't passed by Scotland.

And this coupled with a Scottish win over Japan (Sunday 11:45 AM) in the final match would see Joe Schmidt's top the pool.

Who could Ireland play in the quarter-finals?

It looks for all probability that Ireland will play New Zealand if they finish second in Pool A.

The winners of Pool A look destined to face South Africa in the quarter-finals.

Typhoon Hagibis & implications if game is cancelled

The storm is set to avoid Fukuoka and vital clash is set to go ahead there as planned on Saturday.

World Rugby were monitoring the situation on Monday but fears that Typhoon Hagibis would hit Kyushu, and it's capital Fukuoka by Friday have lessened.

The storm is now likely to reach Tokyo on the same day and that will prevent a major situation for World Cup organisers - and a serious problem for Ireland supporters, given initial concerns over flights landing on the southern island at the end of the week.

If the game was cancelled, resulting in a 0-0 draw, the two sides would have been awarded two points each - a potentially disastrous outcome for Ireland, leaving Scotland with the chance to qualify for the quarter-finals at the expense of Joe Schmidt's squad.
