What those shielding in lockdown can do from today as Scotland enters phase two

Scots will be able to meet up outside in bigger groups, get married, go to the dentist and shop for non-essentials later this month for the first time since lockdown began.

Yesterday afternoon, Nicola Sturgeon announced the start of  phase two of  her lockdown lifting plan.

Meanwhile, larger groups from more than one household can now meet outside and sports courts will also reopen while professional sport resume the First Minister confirmed.

But what about if you are in the shielding category?

From yesterday, upon Nicola Sturgeon's announcement, those who are shielding are allowed to go outdoors for exercise.

Meanwhile, from today, they can also take part in non-contact sports such as golf.

And, significantly, they are now allowed to meet people from one other household, so long as social distancing measures are followed.

The First Minister confirmed the R number - the rate at which the virus is spread - has been stable between 0.6 and 0.9 for the last three weeks.

The number of people estimated to be infectious with the disease has fallen from 19,000 to 2,900 over this period.
