What Thomas Tuchel said as Sadio Mane escaped red card in Chelsea vs Liverpool

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was seen shaking his head in the dugout just seconds into the clash with Liverpool on Sunday, following a refereeing decision in the game.

Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta was on the end of an elbow from Reds’ talisman Sadio Mane on the sidelines.

Some felt as though he should have seen red for the challenge, but the referee only produced a yellow card for the challenge that left the Spaniard on the floor.

To add insult to injury for Tuchel, it was Mane who then opened the scoring for the away side, rounding Edouard Mendy to tap the ball in from close range after just nine minutes.

After the challenge, the Chelsea boss could be seen disagreeing with referee Anthony Taylor, saying: "Unbelievable, [expletive] unbelievable."

The difficult nature of the game mixed with the decision may leave the head coach feeling aggrieved, especially given their recent run of form and decisions against them.

The Blues have two wins in their last six Premier League games as well as a number of injuries and Covid cases that have left them short in areas over the festive period.

A situation surrounding summer signing Romelu Lukaku also hasn’t helped the preparations for January.

The Belgian publicly discussed his situation since his return to Stamford Bridge to Sky Italia, causing some to raise an eyebrow at the timing of the comments.

As a result, the Chelsea boss dropped him from the squad for the Reds, saying: "The thing got too big, too noisy so close to the match so I decided to protect the preparation of the match and that’s why he’s out."

It has all led to a tough time for the German, who will be ruing the fine margins that he feels are currently going against him and his side.
