What Thomas Cook going bust means for Arsenal fans travelling to Europa League matches

Travel company Thomas Cook has entered administration after failed last-ditch talks aimed at securing a £200million bailout.

Negotiations to save the company collapsed at the eleventh hour on Monday, with the UK Civil Aviation Authority confirming the travel firm had "ceased trading with immediate effect".

The company's collapse has triggered the UK's biggest peacetime repatriation effort, aimed at bringing more than 150,000 British holidaymakers home.

Chief executive Peter Fankhauser said the news was a "matter of profound regret".

As well as holidays, the company sold packages to fans including flights, hotels and match tickets for a variety of sports such as football, cricket motorsports and rugby.

Although Thomas Cook are not an official partner of Arsenal and there are no packages for remaining Europa League games, there will be some supporters who could have booked packages with the company to travel to Vitoria or Liege.

Any supporters who have done so should head to the administrator's website for more information, while fans from overseas who have booked packages for games at the Emirates Stadium should do the same.

Elsewhere, the company's collapse has affected thousands of Liverpool supporters with the club saying it is assessing the impact the news will have on the fans who have purchased hospitality packages.

Thomas Cook sell 360 packages for every home game at Anfield - a total of 6,840 for the season. So far 1,080 have been sold to supporters in the opening three Premier League home fixtures, but there are question marks over the remaining 5,760 packages.

In a statement on its official website, Liverpool wrote: "We are aware Thomas Cook has ceased trading this morning. Thomas Cook sells 360 hospitality packages for each of our home games at Anfield.

"We are currently assessing the impact of Thomas Cook ceasing trading and the impact for those supporters who have purchased packages from Thomas Cook.
