What Thibaut Courtois did before and after facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in Champions League

Thibaut Courtois returned to Stamford Bridge for the first time since leaving Chelsea for Real Madrid in 2018 on Thursday evening.

The goalkeeper had a solid game for Los Blancos, pulling off a number of good saves as Chelsea dominated, but he ended up on the losing side in a 2-0 defeat for the Spanish side.

Courtois spent seven years at Chelsea and went and greeted his former teammates pre-match.

The Belgian international looked distinctly unimpressed at the conditions at Stamford Bridge, with the rain pouring down pre-match but, as he walked off after warming up, he took time to greet his former Blues teammates.

Prior to sharing a joke with beIN Sports' Carrie Brown about the weather, Courtois spoke with his former teammates - although it was not as publicised as Eden Hazard's laughing and joking post-match.

Speaking after the game to beIN Sports, Courtois wished the Blues well for the final and said he was rooting for his former club to beat Man City.

"Chelsea is a great team and I had some amazing years here," he said. "Nothing has really changed.

"I obviously wanted to win tonight but now we didn't I will be supporting them in the final.

"I have plenty of friends and former teammates here so I can only wish the best for them in the final and I will be rooting for them."

Courtois felt his side struggled in front of goal as they failed to create chances, but he credited the Blues' defence for their role in that.

He said: "I think, in general, Chelsea are really hard to create chances against.

"They have plenty of clean sheets this year so it means teams find it hard to score goals.

"We knew it wasn't easy and we didn't do enough as a team to score a goal, which is where it went wrong."
