What the weather will be like over Easter weekend in the North East

The sunshine is expected to make a return in time for Easter egg hunts and the long weekend.

Temperatures have been struggling to reach double figures so far in April with some frosty starts and blustery winds.

But the chilly weather is expected to improve towards the end of the week as we head into the Easter holidays.

Although there's no sign of a heatwave, warmer air and sunshine should arrive in time for the four-day weekend.

Good Friday will be mostly dry with bright or sunny spells and highs reaching up to 14C.

On Saturday it is forecast to be cloudy but feeling mild with temperatures up to 15C in the afternoon.

Although it will start to get warmer, there is still a chance of rain showers at Easter.

Met Office forecaster Richard Miles said: "It's looking like we could see a bit of rain over Easter, especially in the western parts of the UK.

"Temperatures could be slightly above average for the weekend itself."

In the North East, the weather looks likely to become more mixed with some rain at times on Easter Sunday and Monday, but still with a good deal of dry weather and some sunshine.

Temperatures will vary from slightly above average to nearer normal for this time of year.
