How bad the weather will be where you live as Met Office forecasts 5.5 inches of rain

After a week of wet weather across Wales, another 140mm of rain could fall in parts of the country throughout this weekend and early next week.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings from Saturday into Tuesday, as persistent, heavy rain targets areas from St. David's to Cardiff and northward to Wrexham and Bangor.

The storm is set to arrive from the southwest on Saturday evening and move eastward overnight through Sunday.

Most areas will see conditions clearing from Sunday morning before another outbreak of rain in the southern half of Wales during the second half of Monday.

According to forecasters, it's too soon to say where the heaviest downpours will set up, but many locations within the warnings could receive at least 40 to 70mm of rain into early next week.

The hardest hit locations may receive 30 to 40mm in just a few hours' time, leading to flooding of homes and businesses, disruption to travel and power cuts.

When all is said and done, a few locations on higher ground in central and south Wales could could be deluged with a whopping 140mm.

Cardiff

Thunderstorms are set to erupt over Cardiff on Friday afternoon before rain clears for much of the remainder of the day. Showers will return on Saturday morning and will be sporadic throughout the day before turning heavy at night.

Persistent rain is likely for much of Monday and Tuesday.

Swansea

After brief thunderstorms on Friday afternoon, the weather will clear for the remainder of the day.

Downpours will return for a period on Saturday morning and reignite overnight into Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday will also include periods of rain, leading to as many as 70mm across Swansea.

Tenby

Thunderstorms will erupt over Tenby on Friday afternoon before conditions clear into the overnight hours.

Heavy rain will return on Saturday evening and continue into the early afternoon on Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday will also feature several hours of rain.

Aberporth

After thunderstorms across Aberporth on Friday afternoon, rain will continue into the evening hours.

The worst of the storms will target the village from Saturday night into Sunday.

Aberystwyth

After a period of thunderstorms on Friday afternoon, downpours will return to Aberystwyth on Saturday night.

Wet weather will give way to vloud on Sunday evening.

Some rain will fall from Monday into Tuesday, though the area will no longer be under a weather warning.

Porthmadog

Porthmadog will largely miss out on the wet weather during the afternoon on Saturday, though heavy downpours will return for the evening and overnight.

Rain is forecast to continue through to the afternoon on Sunday before the weather warning is lifted for Monday and Tuesday.

Rhyl

After a mostly dry Saturday, heavy rain will begin in the evening stretching into late Sunday morning.

Heavy rain and showers will continue on Monday and Tuesday, despite the weather warning being lifted.

Builth Wells

From Friday through Sunday evening, there will be few breaks from the rain in Builth Wells.

Weather warnings in the area will lift for Monday and Tuesday despite spells of heavy throughout the afternoon.
