What the UF media is saying about UGA ahead of Georgia – Florida

The Georgia-Florida game is shaping up to be a great one on Saturday in Jacksonville.

No. 7 Georgia (6-1, 3-1) and No. 6 Florida’s (7-1, 4-1) seasons will be on the line when the two teams meet in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

A loss, and you are done. Maybe not out of contention for the SEC Championship, but you can kiss your Playoff hopes goodbye.

Writing about a good team is a lot of fun (and you guys are a lot nicer when we are winning), so obviously writers from both teams want to see their program win on Saturday.

It’s always interesting to see what the media that covers your opponent is saying about your team heading into the game. So, with that in mind, I compiled a few quotes from Florida football websites that discuss this weekend’s game.

First we look Neil Shulman of InAllKindsOfWeather.com discussing how this Georgia team is nothing compared to Kirby Smart’s 2017 squad.

Working in Mullen’s favor will be the fact that Georgia is clearly not the same team it was two years ago. Quarterback Jake Fromm has been fine, but he certainly hasn’t grown into the difference maker many Georgia fans thought he would be after his freshman year. The Bulldogs don’t have nearly the array of weapons to go throw the ball to, and though their running game is still unmistakably very, very good with D’Andre Swift leading the way, it’s also not as stockpiled from top to bottom as it has been in recent years. And while their defense has been strong so far (sixth in the nation in yards allowed per game) it hasn’t been tested yet; the strongest offense they’ve faced so far was Notre Dame (62nd best in FBS).

Why the Florida-Georgia game is the biggest game of Dan Mullen’s coaching career

Next up, we David Wunderlich of GatorCountry.com discussing how Florida can beat Georgia:

Florida played a lot of soft coverage against LSU, and the Tigers roasted the Gator defense. Granted Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase are far better than anyone UGA has at receiver, but those two racked up huge amounts of yards after the catch.

Several of Georgia’s receivers have 5-star speed even if they don’t have 5-star skills. They’re not likely to burn the defense much before the catch, but they can definitely do it after. That’s why it’s important to stay up on them and especially to make the tackle on the first try.

Then there’s Thomas Goldkamp of Swamp247 discussing Florida cornerback Marco Wilson’s quote about the game.

Ask most Florida players about the importance of this upcoming game against No. 7 Georgia or whether they’re preparing any differently and you’ll get a range of answers going from ‘pretty much the same as any other game’ to more candid answers about how this game likely decides the SEC East.

“It’s just really focusing on who’s going to get to the SEC Championship, because really Florida and Georgia (are) the top teams in the East and whoever wins that is most likely going to Atlanta,” cornerback Marco Wilson said.
