What the Travelodge torn apart by digger looks like now

A disgruntled father-of-two who smashed through a Travelodge hotel with a digger was jailed for five years and four months on Wednesday.

John Manley tore his way through the Travelodge branch at Liverpool Innovation Park in Edge Lane back in January 2019.

The hotel was left looking almost unrecognisable after the 35-year-old trashed through the building's lobby.

Manley, of St Aidan's Way, Netherton, claimed he drove the digger into the hotel because he wasn't paid over Christmas.

Judge David Aubrey, QC, said Manley "intended to leave a trail of destruction".

Manley's damage to the hotel was caught on camera and filmed by several witnesses on mobile phones as it made headlines across the UK.

Today the hotel is officially open to the public again, after setbacks caused them to push back the opening date.

Months of construction work were carried out on the lobby to restore it to its former glory.

Photos of the gruelling work were previously published by the ECHO, as many of the "finishing trades" who had almost completed their work had to be called back in to rebuild it.

The ceiling also had to be refurbished, after footage showed it being pulled down in the attack.

In footage, which went viral, the digger arm can be seen tearing down the ceiling, smashing through the windows and destroying the front desk.

Manley could also be heard shouting: "£600 f******* quid, all you had to do was pay me, my f******* 600 quid, 600 f******* quid".

Photos show the hotel looking completely different to when it was wrecked by the damage.

Building work on the 71-room hotel started in May 2018, as part of a multi-million pound investment that created 35 new jobs.

The office conversion, 71-room hotel features an on-site restaurant called the Bar Café, complementary car parking and represents a multi-million investment for the landlord.

All rooms feature the bespoke luxurious king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed, which offers bedside USB charging points, energy saving LED mood enhancing lighting, as well as an en-suite bathroom, power shower, comfort cooling, Freeview TV and free in-room tea & coffee making facilities.
