But their hopes of playing in European rugby's top tier next season aren't entirely finished.
While the defeat makes their hopes slim, there is still a chance.
This is exactly what they need to happen.
QUALIFYING FOR THE CHAMPIONS CUP PLAY-OFF
After Benetton's bonus point victory over Zebre, the only way the Scarlets can qualify for Europe is by finishing fourth in Conference B and securing a place in the Champions Cup play-off.
Currently, they do sit fourth in their conference on 52 points - with Edinburgh in fifth on 51 points and trailing on points difference.
With Benetton securing third place with their victory, Wayne Pivac's side are relying on Edinburgh not bettering their two bonus points from today.
So if Edinburgh lose to Glasgow tonight and pick up no bonus points, the Scarlets will qualify for the play-off.
If Edinburgh lose and pick up one bonus point in defeat, the Scarlets will still qualify despite the two sides sitting on the same points total, as the Welsh region has a far better points difference.
But if Edinburgh get two points, then they will leapfrog the Scarlets - consigning them to finishing fifth in their conference and playing Challenge Cup rugby next year.
The Edinburgh match kicks off at 7.35pm on Saturday evening.
So Scarlets fans have a nervous wait until then.
