Rangers' Europa League campaign got off to the worst possible start against Lyon at Ibrox on Thursday night.
Optimism was high ahead of the high-profile clash but the Ligue 1 side looked a cut above Steven Gerrard 's team and took the lead when Karl Toko Ekambi curled in a beauty.
Ibrox did its' best to will Rangers back into the game and there were chances for the home side with James Tavernier going close with a free-kick while John Lundstram fired wide.
But some confusion at the back sealed their fate as James Tavernier found himself in the way of a Connor Goldson goal-line clearance to seal a rare European home defeat.
It was far from a disaster for Rangers who have plenty of time to recover but, not for the first time this season, they looked some way off the pace they set on their way to the title last season.

Ally McCoist
"If I'm going to be brutally honest, which I will be, I don't think we've reached the heights of any of our performances last season.
"I mean that domestically as well. Some of the performances in Europe were first class but I don't think they've reached those heights.
"They've had some good performances, beating Celtic, but they haven't maintained anything like the level of consistency from last year.
"Toko Ekambi's goal is out of this world. Allan McGregor would normally be delighted with his defence making him go out there, but look where he hits it from. First class.
David Weir
"The bar was really high last year but at Rangers the hardest season is always the next one.
"None of the signings have raised the bar.
"They've not been for big transfer fees, they've been free transfers, so we have to be realistic. Lyon have spent millions.
"Rangers will be competitive in the group, they're not far away. It's fine lines.
"The second goal, Rangers have defended it with their lives. It's just bad luck.
"McGregor makes a great save, Goldson's there to clear it. They just haven't got the breaks."

"Lyon showed why they're the number one seed, a class act. They had important players missing and they still put in that performance.
"Steven Gerrard will be disappointed.
"A lot of effort from Rangers but very few efforts on target. You expect a lot more than that, Morelos was very quiet too."
