What the pundits are predicting for Crystal Palace's Premier League clash with Sheffield United

Crystal Palace's months in the summer transfer were spent talking about departures from Selhurst Park and transfers even took centre stage on the opening weekend.

Wilfried Zaha came off the bench in Palace's goalless draw against Everton, a team he came close to joining during the transfer window, but the Ivory Coast international could make his first start this weekend.

The opponents are Sheffield United, who marked their return to the Premier League with a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, and they're now preparing for their first home game in the top-flight in a decade.

With all those circumstances, it's a difficult game to predict and that is reflected by the fact that three respected pundits have all predicted different end results for this weekend's clash.

Michael Owen - Draw ( BetVictor )

Wilfried Zaha was warmly applauded by the Eagles’ fans when he came on as a second-half substitute against Everton at Selhurst Park and Palace badly missed their talisman in the opening hour.

Roy Hodgson looks sure to start Zaha at Bramall Lane with another week’s training under his belt and the Blades will do well to cope with his pace and power. Chris Wilder’s side showed their resilience to come from a goal down to get a vital point at the Vitality Stadium, but Palace are a different side on the road and, if there is a winner in south Yorkshire, I expect it to be Roy Hodgson’s side.

Mark Lawrenson - 2-1 Sheffield United ( BBC )

I was really pleased to see Billy Sharp score to earn Sheffield United a point last week. He has spent most of his career in the lower leagues, but he has always got goals.

A draw at Bournemouth was a decent result for the Blades and I quite fancy them to beat Palace, because they will have a real go at them. Bramall Lane will be a full house and there will be a great noise.

It is going to be a difficult afternoon for Crystal Palace, anyhow.

Wilfried Zaha should start for them - why wouldn't he? - but having a situation where their best player has asked to leave has not helped their start to the season, and it feels like they have got a few teething problems to sort out.

Charlie Nicholas - 2-1 Palace ( Sky Sports )

Sheffield United will be really good to watch this year. Crystal Palace on their day can be too. Wilfried Zaha has to be in the mood here. He is the spark, but so too is Andros Townsend occasionally. I cannot believe Christian Benteke is still there, but he can be the guy that makes me swallow the pill and scores the winner in this one.

Premier League 2019/20 - key fixtures

It is very unpredictable. It was a great point for Chris Wilder after his team hung in there at Bournemouth. But if Zaha is over his mood, he will be the match-winner.
