What the pundits are predicting for Crystal Palace's clash with Aston Villa at Selhurst Park

Three pundits are in agreement about what could happen when Crystal Palace face Aston Villa at Selhurst Park this afternoon (Saturday).

The Eagles welcome Dean Smith's newly-promoted side to south London as Roy Hodgson's men go in search of their first home win of the season, having drawn 0-0 with Everton on the opening day at Selhurst Park, before bowing out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday after losing on penalties against Colchester United.

But a trio of pundits reckon they will be made to wait a little longer for a first home success of the campaign.

Here's what the pundits are predicting for the game in SE25.

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson - 1-1

"Last weekend's win at Manchester United was an excellent result for Crystal Palace, but then they failed to score against Colchester in the League Cup. But the thing with Roy Hodgson's teams is that if they are not scoring, they are still good defensively.

"Aston Villa beat Everton last Friday, but if I were to do a maths report on their season so far, it would be a six out of 10. There is room for improvement."

His opponent for the weekly feature , actor and comedian Stephen Fry, has also predicted a 1-1 draw.

The key dates in the Premier League 2019/20 season

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas - 1-1

"Aston Villa got a big lift against Everton.

"So far, Crystal Palace have been unpredictable. Wilfried Zaha must have accepted the reality now he is back in the team. I saw them win at Man United, but where did that come from? Jordan Ayew was so composed with the first goal, and they will always be well-drilled under Roy Hodgson.

"I am amazed that Christian Benteke has been offered a new contract. Gary Cahill was solid with his position and took a yellow card rather than give away a penalty. Everything he did, he did with assurance and experience. He could be something they have been waiting for.

"I do not know what you will get from them coming forward, but because of the unpredictablility I am going to go 1-1. I wouldn't mind watching the game, as you do not know which way it is going to go."

Bet Victor columnist Michael Owen - 1-1

"Palace have earned 60% of their points on the road since the start of last season, after their tremendous win at Old Trafford on Saturday.

"Villa ended a run of 15 Premier League games without a win when they beat a toothless Everton at Villa Park on Friday, and I think it will be a point apiece at Selhurst Park."
