He tells the story behind the Mail on Sunday's false kiss-and-tell story about Jon Snow. It is riveting because it reveals both the flawed agenda and faulty modus operandi of modern journalism. There's an even more detailed reconstruction of what happened, by Vikram Dodd in The Guardian.
Peter Wilby in The Guardian muses on the reasons for the decline in popularity of Sunday newspapers. And Peter Preston in The Observer assesses the state of newspaper sales in Britain and comments: ""Perhaps it isn't demonic digitalisation that's bringing us down, dear friends. Perhaps it's just us - and what we produce. And perhaps we're too damned morose about change."
