Donald Trelford in The Independent argues that regional papers are less hidebound than nationals in dealing with new immigrants. By contrast, The Guardian's Cristina Odone considers the fate of an emigrant, the Daily Mail, which is making heavy weather of building sales in the Irish Republic. She says that along with its partner titles it is losing about €33m (£22m) a year. As I pointed out five weeks ago (see Why the Daily Mail is doing badly in Ireland) the Mail is an English, not an Irish, construction. (Via Media Guardian and The Independent)
