What the press commentators are saying...

Tony Blair's "feral beast" media speech stimulates two interesting pieces. Peter Wilby in The Guardian argues that the lobby system allows governments to set the news agenda and "makes the press a poor watchdog". Steven Glover in The Independent takes a largely similar view, though he concentrates on the specific history of Labour's largely benign relationship with the press - until the Iraq war.

Peter Preston in The Observer indulges in a little media commentating narcissism by taking Wilby to task for his column last week by arguing that there is a good future for serious Sunday newspapers... as long as they avoid greater integration with daily titles.
