How Lucas Torreira, Calum Chambers and Arsenal stars are affected by Premier League decision

Premier League clubs remain committed to finishing the 2019/20 season.

All professional football across England has been suspended indefinitely because of the severity of the coronavirus pandemic, and there was a meeting on Friday to discuss the next steps.

This came just days after it was reported that a group of clubs were hoping to finish the season by June 30, regardless of whether the title, European qualification and relegation had been finalised.

However, according to Sky Sports, the June ultimatum was not raised during meeting as clubs were united over the controversial proposal as the plan is to ensure this season is completed.

"We are acutely aware of the distress COVID-19 is causing and our thoughts are with all those directly affected by the pandemic," a Premier League spokesperson said. "In common with other businesses and industries, the Premier League and our clubs are working through complex planning scenarios.

"We are actively engaging with stakeholders, including broadcast partners, and our aim is to ensure we are in a position to resume playing when it is safe to do so and with the full support of the Government.

"The health and wellbeing of players, coaches, managers, club staff and supporters are our priority and the League will only restart when medical guidance allows."

According to the Mirror June 8 is seen as the best case scenario for Premier League games to resume.

Clubs have also been told that they may be able to start training again from May 18, although this depends on the government’s social distancing measures.

But what does this all mean for Arsenal and specifically those currently out injured?

Well, one player whom this suspension certainly doesn't benefit is Calum Chambers and he was ruled out for six to nine months at the beginning of the year after knee surgery.

Even if the season is delayed into July, Chambers' return to action will be next season.

But there's possibly good news for Lucas Torreira.

The Uruguay international likely to be out for eight to ten weeks as he recovers from the fractured ankle suffered against Portsmouth at the beginning of March.

Most of which will be served whilst Premier League games are suspended, which means there's a very good chance he could feature again this season as the Gunners will have a back log of fixtures.

Meanwhile, Sead Kolasinac was always on course to return to full training by the end of March so he will be fine if the Premier League resumes in June.

Shkodran Mustafi was left out against West Ham United - Arsenal's last game prior to the season being halted - as a precaution and will also be fine if the suspension is lifted in June.

Kieran Tierney and Cedric Soares have since returned to full training following injury, but the Premier League decision has pushed back their return dates and the latter could make his debut in the same month his loan deal is due to expire.
