What the Nationals said to the umpires after the controversial interference call on Trea Turner

The Washington Nationals have been justifiably upset with the umpires during the World Series, and Game 6’s interference debacle was just the latest misstep from the umpiring crew.

But thanks to some savvy audio work and lip reading, we know exactly what the Nationals said to umpires Sam Holbrook, Jim Wolf and Gary Cederstrom.

The incident took place in the seventh inning as Turner was called out for impeding the throw and catch. Replays, though, showed that Turner didn’t change his path running towards first, but the play — a judgement call — wasn’t reviewable under MLB guidelines. The Nationals would’ve had runners on second and third with no outs. Instead, the call resulted in an out on Turner and no advance of the runner.

The call at the time had the potential to change the series, which understandably had the Nationals furious. This was what manager Dave Martinez and Trea Turner said to the umpires. (Warning: NSFW language)

Yeah, that was some serious heat from the Nats. These videos never get old.

Turner, specifically, could be heard calling out MLB Chief Baseball Officer Joe Torre who oversees on-field operations and umpiring. Turner claimed that Torre was hiding with his head down. Martinez was ejected for arguing the call.

Luckily, the call didn’t make a drastic impact on the game as Anthony Rendon hit a two-run home run later in the inning. The Nationals won, 7-2, to force Wednesday’s Game 7.
