What the Met Office says about the heatwave expected to hit Wales this week

Wales is getting set for one of the hottest days of the year so far as temperatures look set to soar to 30°C this week.

The country is in for glorious sunny days but also very sticky humid nights during the middle of the week with thunderstorms also possible.

So you can plan the best time to fire up the barbecue and go on that (socially distanced) walk, we spoke to the Met Office to find out what the weather has in store for us this week.

A Met Office spokesman told WalesOnline : "The main talking point is the temperature. There is going to be a lot of dry weather as well. It is going to be very much like summer."

Monday

Tomorrow looks to be the cloudiest day of the week.

The Met Office spokesman said: "There will be quite a bit of cloud, especially the further west you go. There could be down pours in Pembrokeshire.

"The further east you go the dryer it will be."

Tuesday

Weather on Tuesday (Met Office)

This will start to pick up Tuesday with a widely sunning day for most of us, especially in the afternoon.

"A weather front will return and push back westward with high pressure building," added the Met Office spokesman.

"This will lead to a sunny day across all of Wales though the west may see a patch of cloud to start with.

"Temperatures will rise markedly and peak at 24-25°C."

Wednesday

Weather on Wednesday (Met Office)

Around the middle of the week the mercury is expected to tip of 30°C in some place.

Great news for the sun worshippers, not so good for those people who struggle to sleep in the warm weather.

The Met Office spokesman: "Wednesday will be a very sunny day with very high temperatures. We are looking at a high of between 27-29C though this could read 30°C around the English border.

"There will some very warm nights with temperatures in the mid teens. This is not ideal for a good night sleep."

Thursday

Weather on Thursday (Met Office)

"It is a case of rinse and repeat for Thursday which will be very similar to Sunday," said the Met Office meteriologist.

"There is some chance it may be some thunderstorms because of the hot weather bringing torrential downpours but that is a small likelihood at the moment.

"In the east of Wales it could reach up to 30°C."

Friday and next weekend

Things are looking far more uncertain at the end of the week and the weekend weather could go either way.

"Confidence drops off a cliff at the end of the week," added the spokesman.

"There could be some quite severe thunderstorms and torrential downpours by the end of the week and the weekend."
