What the Met Office says about claims this November could be the coldest in a decade for the UK

According to some weather forecasts, this November could be the coldest in nearly a decade for the UK with temperatures set to dip to into the negatives on several occasions.

Experts at The Weather Outlook have said computer forecast models point to this November being the coldest since 2010. And it has been claimed that temperatures between now and November 19 look to remain below the 30-year average for this time of year.

But, Met Office predictions appear to contradict the company's forecast - with better news on the horizon for those worried about high heating bills.

A spokesman for the Met Office told WalesOnline: "This is not something we're endorsing or saying.

"Our latest three-month outlook suggests it's actually probably going to be above-average for temperatures over November."

Despite temperatures in the single digits in recent days, Wales and Britain overall have averaged around two degrees above-normal so far.

A spell of colder weather is possible next week, sending temperatures tumbling for a time, but a rebound won't be far behind.

From November 10, scattered showers will dominate across the country and some wintry showers will target the high ground of the north.

"For most parts, it will remain colder than average throughout the period," the forecast says.

But from November 21 onward, the Met Office says there are indications that there will "be a slow transition into more settled weather."

"This could mean that temperatures may return close to the average by the end of the month, although it could still be rather cold at times," they said.
