What the future holds for Spurs wonderkid Marcus Edwards as English transfer window closes

The summer transfer window is closed for Tottenham Hotspur, but that doesn't mean all their business is complete.

In terms of incomings it is. Tanguy Ndombele, Jack Clarke, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon are the fab four brought in by Mauricio Pochettino in an attempt to improve on last season's fourth place finish in the Premier League.

Although, Clarke won't be available to the Argentine tactician this term as he's been loaned back to Leeds United to continue his development under Marcelo Bielsa.

Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Serge Aurier were all linked with departures too, but all remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of this weekend's clash against Manchester City.

As is forgotten midfielder Marcus Edwards.

The youngster has been out of the spotlight for some time, with an unsuccessful loan spell with Norwich City at the end of the 2017/18 campaign followed by a more successful one at Dutch Eredivisie side Excelsior last year.

As reported by football.london earlier in the summer, Edwards - who was left out of the club's pre-season tour to Asia - trained with Brentford in an attempt to earn a deal with the Championship club.

However, 20-year-old was not successful and his future is up in the air now that the transfer window for English clubs is now shut.

But could Edwards still be on the move this summer?

Well, Our Spurs writer Alasdair Gold gave his thoughts on Edwards' future during an Q&A session with fans on Tuesday.

This is what's been said: "It feels like Marcus is heading abroad. He was training with Brentford this summer looking to get a move there, but that opportunity looks to have passed with the closing of the Championship transfer window unless Spurs were to cancel the last year of his contract and make him a free agent which seems highly unlikely.

Mauricio Pochettino: My original plan did not work against Aston Villa

"The League One and Two windows are still open but after his good season on loan with Excelsior Rotterdam, the likelihood is he will follow friends like Jadon Sancho and Reece Oxford in moving to Germany or perhaps the Netherlands again in order to try to continue his professional career.

"He doesn’t look to have any place in Pochettino’s plans and there are just too many players ahead of him now.

"Edwards has got ability by the bucketload and hopefully the 20-year-old will continue to build on the promise and focus shown last season in the Eredivisie and really push on in his career."
