Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has recalled an angry encounter with a Manchester United fan.
Schmeichel joined United in 1991 and enjoyed a trophy-laden eight years at Old Trafford, making over 350 appearances.
The Dane won five FA Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup, and the Champions League across his time playing Sir Alex Ferguson and he was cherished by United supporters for being relied upon to produce consistently top performances.
However, Schmeichel has now recalled a story where one United fan angered him on the golf course with his son.
"One time when we were playing golf," Schmeichel wrote in his new autobiography in an extract in The Times.
"We were on the tee box when a very nice older man came up to us and said to me, 'Mr Schmeichel, I’ve been watching you all my life and you are the best goalkeeper I’ve ever seen. I am a big Manchester United fan. Thank you, very much.'
"That was pretty nice. And then he looked at Kasper. 'And you, young man. You’re not bad either. In fact, you’re very good. But you will never be as good as your dad.' Seriously?! What a thing to say. This guy had been very polite, but I could not help myself.

“What the f*** are you saying? Why are you talking like that? How’s that going to help?' I yelled. There were two reasons to do so. One, I was really hurt personally. And two, I deliberately went big on him, because I needed to show Kasper something.
"I’ve got your back. Regardless of being his dad, I would tell you that he is one of the strongest keepers I have ever seen."
Kasper Schmeichel has gone on to enjoy a glittering career himself, winning the Premier League and FA Cup with Leicester.
