What the Cardiff City v Liverpool final score means for Premier League title and relegation situation

Cardiff City's 2-0 defeat against Liverpool has left them three points behind relegation rivals Brighton, having played a game more in the battle for Premier League survival.

Brighton's 0-0 draw against Wolves on Saturday was a blow to the Bluebirds' hopes, and they couldn't get anything from the clash with title-chasing Liverpool on Sunday.

You can see all the live reaction to the game here after goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner sealed the three points at Cardiff City Stadium.

It means the Seagulls are on 34 points, while Cardiff remain on 31.

Brighton's game in hand sees them travel to Tottenham on Tuesday, before they face Newcastle at home on the same weekend Cardiff travel to Fulham.

Southampton also remain in the mix after their 3-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday, although their run-in is deemed the easiest of all the sides at the bottom. They are currently on 36 points having also played a game less than Cardiff.

In the race for the title, Liverpool's win means they return to the top, two points ahead of Man City, who have a game in hand.
