What Taylor Swift's parents said to Kanye West after he interrupted her acceptance speech

When Kanye West ran on stage during the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 to interrupt Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, Swift’s parents were sat in the front row.

The “imma let you finish, but” stage invasion that sparked thousands of memes will forever be synonymous with both West and Swift, who have now rekindled their feud once again. But little thought was given to the reaction from those who accompanied her to the show.

In an unlikely alliance, Amber Rose has defended West amid a furore over a phone call Swift claims was secretly recorded.

Speaking on her eponymous VH1 show, Rose claimed West would never intentionally try to ruffle Swift because of his “remorse” over the VMAs.

One detail she revealed was the reaction from Swift’s parents Scott and Andrea, who were there to watch their daughter collect her award for best video and clearly upset by his interruption. Their reaction was enough to make an impression on the rapper, according to Rose.

“I was next to him at the VMAs that year and … I remember the repercussions after that. I remember Taylor's mother and father coming up to us and saying, 'One day, Kanye, you'll have a daughter and somebody is going to do that to you.’

“He was so remorseful. I mean he really felt so bad, because it wasn't about Taylor. It was about Beyoncé and her video ... he didn't want to interrupt Taylor – he didn't even know who she was at the time.“
