What Swansea boss Steve Cooper said about Sunderland's enquiry for Declan John

Swansea boss Steve Cooper says Sunderland's move for Declan John 'might happen' before tomorrow's transfer deadline.

Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson confirmed after Sunderland's win over Tranmere on Wednesday that they had enquired about the Welsh international left-back as he looks for competition for Denver Hume in the left-wing-back role.

He told Chronicle Live:“He’s someone we have enquired about.

“He’s similar to Denver in terms of his pace and being a real outlet on that side.

“He’s someone we’ve asked about.”

John has struggled for game-time this season with Cooper preferring Jake Bidwell in the role.

And while Cooper acknowledged Sunderland's enquiry, he says any deal has not progressed any further than that at this stage.

"We’re aware of that," Cooper told Wales Online of Sunderland's enquiry.

"That’s one of the things that might happen but at the moment we aren’t going through that process.

"I can confirm that rumour as being true, but i don’t think it’s gone much further than that yet."
