What surprising aspect Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka wants to know about ahead of AS Roma move

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been enquiring over an intriguing aspect of Italian life as his protracted move to Italian giants AS Roma appears to be edging slightly closer.

The Swiss midfielder has been linked with a move to the Stadio Olimpicio since the conclusion of the 2020/21 Premier League.

football.london understands that a five-year deal has been agreed upon between the club and the player, with a £16m fee having also been provisionally accepted by the Gunners.

The deal would see Xhaka draw to an end a rollercoaster five-year stint with Arsenal having joined from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016.

He was a constant under Arsene Wenger, whilst also being selected regularly by his successor Unai Emery before an explosive confrontation with Arsenal fans saw him stripped of the captaincy.

Having now played in his homeland of Switzerland whilst also enjoying periods in Germany, as well as England, Xhaka has been revealed to have been to have been asking about the driving conditions in the eternal city by his international teammate Remo Freuler.

Talking ahead of his side’s Euro 2020 meeting with Italy on Monday afternoon, he said: “First he asked me what the roads are like in Italy…”

Xhaka is set to depart the Emirates Stadium having made 220 appearances for Arsenal in the time since his arrival.

Within that, he has netted 24 strikes for the north Londoners, some of those being particularly eye-catching efforts from range.

The 28-year-old still has two years left to run on his most recent Arsenal contract but that looks highly unlikely to be fulfilled.
