What Steven Gerrard has said about Rangers stay after 'rejecting' Derby approach

Steven Gerrard has reportedly rejected an approach to take over at Derby.

The Championship side are making plans for next season with Frank Lampard tipped to move to Chelsea .

Lampard has emerged as the No.1 choice to succeed Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge after the Italian was confirmed as Juventus ' new boss.

Lampard only spent one season at Derby and guided the club to the Championship play-off final.

Derby remain hopeful of keeping him but are preparing for all eventualities, with a host of names in the frame to replace the former England midfielder.

Terry's former teammate John Terry has been linked with the post as has ex-Derby midfielder John Eustace.

But the Times suggested Lampard's former England midfield partner Gerrard had been approached.

Like Lampard, the former Liverpool skipper has had just one season in senior management at Ibrox.

He guided Rangers to second place in the Scottish Premiership and has no plans to walk away from the project just yet.

Speaking last year, he outlined his plans to at least see out his contract in Glasgow, with Gerrard tied down until 2022.

“Without the support behind myself and my coaching staff, we wouldn’t have been able to have achieved what we have so far.

“I can assure everyone that we’ll give every bit of time and effort we’ve got to continue moving the club forward on the pitch and we’ll continue trying to attract the best players possible to help bring success back to this incredible club.

“I feel I’m in such a blessed position to be here as manager. I hope I stay here for a very long time and we share some really good times together.”
