What Steven Bergwijn said after being named man of the match for debut goal against Man City

Steven Bergwijn described his debut goal for Tottenham Hotspur as a "dream that has come true."

The winger opened the scoring as Spurs beat 10-man Manchester City 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Bergwijn, who signed from PSV Eindhoven for £27million last week, opened his account for the club just past the hour mark, firing a superb half volley beyond the reach of City goalkeeper Ederson.

Spurs ensured the points were safe eight minutes later when Son Heung-min doubled their advantage.

Understandably delighted with his debut goal, Bergwijn, who went off with cramp on 70 minutes, could hardly hide his delight at full time after being handed the Man-of-the-match award.

"It’s unbelievable, it’s a dream for me that has come true," Bergwijn told Sky Sports.

"I’m so happy to be here and to make a goal for Spurs.

"It meant everything to me. As a little kid, you want to be here and you want to play in the Premier League, if you can score on your debut then it’s unbelievable.

"It’s an unbelievable stadium. When I came in, I looked up and it’s amazing."

The win lifts Tottenham up to fifth in the Premier League table, just four points behind Chelsea in fourth.
