What Steve Cooper told his players after Nottingham Forest loss and why Swansea City will 'equal' Bristol City game-plan

Steve Cooper revealed he has regularly spoken to his Swansea City players about how to deal with winning and losing matches this season.

The Swans suffered their first defeat of the 2019/20 campaign last time out as Sabri Lamouchi's Nottingham Forest beat Cooper's men 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea look to get their Championship campaign back on track against Bristol City at Ashton Gate this weekend.

And Cooper says the Swans have drawn a line under the loss to Forest ahead of the journey over the Severn Bridge.

“Football’s a competition. It’s about winning and losing. You have to be able to deal with both," said the Swansea head coach.

“We have spoken about being good at handling both. It’s not getting too high or too low. Our focus is on performance.

“The league does bring up some surprise results. Forest are a good team. But we have drawn a line under it and now we are looking forward.”

Bristol City have not lost since being beaten 3-1 by Leeds United on the opening day of the season.

They sit just two points behind the Swans ahead of the meeting between the sides this weekend.

And Cooper heaped praise on Lee Johnson's side for the way they have started the season but warned that Swansea will be "equal" to the Robins' game-plan.

“We are not looking past the weekend. Bristol City are in good form. We are doing everything we can to be ready for them," he added.

“They are going into games to win them and they are scoring goals. They have exciting players.

“I know Lee well. He will have them ready and a game plan but we will equal that.

“I think they’re a strong team that can win a lot of games in the league. I like Lee a lot, he’s been a manager a long time and he’s still a young coach.

“I remember him starting out at Oldham and he’s gone from strength to strength. They’ve invested well and they’ve got good players.

“But the focus is just on ourselves. We can’t worry too much about others. We want to get our own house in order.

“I hear we’ve got a good following going as well so that’s going to be important. We’re clear about what we want to do and hopefully we can deliver.”

Aldo Kalulu is the only absentee for the Swans while the Robins will be without Benik Afobe, Tomas Kalas and Bailey Wright.
