What Steve Cooper has said about Swansea City's Joe Rodon amid transfer interest from Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal

Steve Cooper has urged Joe Rodon to remain focused on helping Swansea City in their promotion push amid Premier League interest in the defender.

Having made his first start for the Swans in more than three months at Preston last time out after being sidelined with an ankle injury, Rodon earned the praise of his head coach.

including Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

And Cooper says centre-back Rodon can't allow himself to be distracted by interest from top-flight clubs.

"I think any good player in the league will be linked with moves," said Cooper.

"It’s amazing, we just come out of the January window and here we go, we’re answering questions straight away.

"I just think for Joe and all of the boys, they’ve got to focus on playing well and training well and in the end your ability and your level takes you to where you belong.

"If that’s a higher one than the Championship for any of our boys, I'm sure they’ll have the opportunity to get there.

"I did speak publicly about Joe last week because it was his first start after a three-month injury. I know how hard he'd worked to get himself back on the pitch.

"It's a difficult one with centre-backs when it comes to bedding them back in. You're either playing or you're not really.

"We just felt that he looked well enough in training to go straight back into the team and play 90 minutes.

"He proved us right really, but we weren't surprised.

"He just reminded us of his level of play, which is high, and he’s just got to keep it going now."

And when asked if he expects to receive offers for Rodon in the summer, Cooper responded: "It depends how we do for the rest of the season. I certainly think we have players that I think can play in the Premier League, but that’s only ability.

"It’s inevitable. If you do well at this stage and you’re young with time on your side, it’s inevitable that you’ll be linked.

"But it’s way too early to be talking about things like that too much, but if there’s bridges to be crossed, we’ll do what is right for the club, but it's way off that at the moment.

"I’m not thinking too much about losing or bringing in players at the moment.

"We've got 16 games to go and we're coming up to the middle of February so we need to focus on the present."

Rodon is in line to make his first appearance at the Liberty Stadium in 109 days when the Swans take on Derby County this weekend.

The Swans welcome back Connor Roberts from a shoulder injury for this weekend's Championship clash with Phillip Cocu's side.

Mike van der Hoorn remains sidelined with a knee injury while Jordon Garrick will step up his recovery from a hamstring problem by featuring for the Under-23s against Reading on Saturday.
