What Steve Bruce told Sky Sports after Newcastle United's stunning Chelsea win

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has opened up on his side's pursuit of January transfer window targets amid after the 1-0 win over Chelsea.

The Magpies have been linked with an array of names including Jarrod Bowen but Bruce has reiterated his desire to only add players that will definitely improve the quality of his squad.

Issac Hayden scored the winner for Newcastle on Sunday as they edged out Chelsea and afterwards Bruce spoke about what his plans are amid an injury to Jetro Willems in the game.

"We need to build so and add that bit of quality. Everyone has been asking me about January and I've said all along, unless there is a bit of quality I'm not going to do anything," Bruce told Sky Sports.

"What's the point? We might have to look at left-back now because it looks serious for Jetro Willems but we'll see how that is. It looks like a nasty one."

Newcastle had less shots on goal than Chelsea and also only enjoyed just 30% of possession in the contest but Bruce was quick to praise the effort from his players.

"The players worked so hard. The one thing we did do was defend really well," Bruce added.

"Overall you cannot fault them to a man. We set up to be difficult to beat and thoroughly well organised and we did that today."
