What Spurs must do next season to keep Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

It won't be long at all before Spurs get their Premier League campaign underway with a home game against Aston Villa on the opening weekend.

Some of the first team returned to Hotspur Way at the start of the week to begin their preparations for the 2019/20 season, with those who took part in the international games in June set to link up with their teammates very soon.

Those players who have been representing their respective countries at the Copa America and Africa Cup of Nations will rejoin the squad at a later date.

Having finished last season in fourth and reached the Champions League final, Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele and potentially a few more signings can see them push on and challenge for silverware on a regular basis over the coming years.

Much has been made of the fact that the manager has yet to win a trophy during his time in N17 and former defender Pascal Chimbonda believes the club must do so next campaign if they want to keep hold of the 47-year-old.

"If Tottenham don’t win a trophy and finish in the top four next season then Pochettino will leave the club," he told Sportingbet . "He’s hungry for success and needs to manage a team that shares the same desire as him.

"He’s done an outstanding job at stabilising Tottenham as a top team, but it’s time to move on and become genuine competitors against the big teams.

"Pochettino won’t accept standing still as he wants to progress and I think Tottenham have to now make that leap."

Pochettino has done an incredible job during his five years in the capital and Chimbonda has heaped huge praise on the Argentine for his achievements at the club so far.

"No manager in the world would have been able to do a better job than Pochettino has done at Tottenham," he added.

"He has got every player performing to their full ability and no one could improve on what he’s already done.

"As a player, you want to work under a manager that will let you express yourself on the field.

"Players know they will get that with Pochettino and they will want to work under him.

"It’s only a matter of time before he starts delivering silverware."
