What Son Heung-min said about his 'special' solo strike in Spurs' victory against Burnley

Son Heung-min admitted that it felt amazing to score such a "special goal" in front of the Tottenham fans this afternoon (Saturday).

The Spurs star scored a stunning solo effort against Burnley, after picking the ball up on the edge of his own box, before taking on several opponents and racing clear, before slotting the ball past Clarets goalkeeper Nick Pope.

It was a goal that had Spurs fans going wild, while several pundits have heaped praise on the South Korean, including Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, who said that in his opinion, it was the goal of the season.

Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho also described it as an "amazing goal" , with the Portuguese boss saying after the game that his son calls him Sonaldo.

And Son spoke of his pride about the goal as he reflected on what was going through his mind when he picked up the ball in his own half.

“I see Dele [Alli] is running on the left side, many players from Burnley and I tried to pass first of all to Dele and then the right back was following him so it was almost impossible to pass to him," he said, speaking in an interview posted on social media by Spurs .

“So I went and put my booster on and it was the right time to put the booster on, and after two or three seconds then I was in front of the goal, so I was really, really surprised.

“But especially when you score this type of goal at home, it has made me so proud, and so happy, and it feels amazing.”

Son added that he would have been very upset to miss once he found himself through on goal, with the South Korean asked whether it was his best goal in his time at Tottenham.

“I was tired actually, after the running, but I was still focused to finish it and I would have been so upset to do so well to get there and then miss," he said.

“I am really happy to have scored this kind of goal.

“For me, it is difficult, every single goal is special, but for me, this is really, really special. I like to dribble and to score goals, and this is really special. [I'm really] Grateful to have this opportunity and to score goals like this, and it is an amazing feeling.”
