What Solskjaer told Marcus Rashford before Manchester United hat trick vs RB Leipzig

Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes were tasked with increasing the tempo of Manchester United's play in the Champions League win over RB Leipzig.

Leading 1-0 thanks to Mason Greenwood's first-half goal, United were in control but without the goals to back it up, and Leipzig were pushing to try and find an equaliser.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned to Rashford and Scott McTominay on 63 minutes, before bringing on Fernandes five minutes later. And Rashford revealed after the match that Solskjaer told his substitutes to get their forward players on the ball and make the game safe.

"The manager told us when we came on to up the tempo," Rashford told BT Sport. "For us it means going forward. There were definitely spaces there and today we managed to find passes. We got Bruno on the ball, Paul on the ball, Anto running forward. We looked dangerous and like we were going to score every time we went forward."

Rashford's hat-trick in just 16 minutes secured a fantastic 5-0 win that sees United take full control of their Champions League group, but Rashford made sure to extend praise to his entire team for the win.

"It was a real team performance," he explained. "The ones who started did well and the substitutes did well too. We can't ask for much more than that in terms of the attitude and the intent to go and kill the game off. It worked in our favour."
