What Solskjaer told Daniel James before ending his Manchester United goal drought

Daniel James admits it is a relief to have finally ended his Manchester United goal drought.

The Wales international started life in irresistible form for United and netted three goals in his first four matches for the club.

However, despite such an impressive start to life at Old Trafford the 22-year-old had not scored since August 31 when he netted a stunner away at Southampton.

That was until James finally ended his goal drought with a clinical finish in United's 5-0 win over LASK in the Europa League fixture on Thursday night.

James all but sealed the tie when he netted the second goal in Austria on Thursday night and now he is eager to add even more goals to his game in the coming weeks.

Speaking after the game James reacted to the win and revealed the advice he had received from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at half-time.

"Maybe I haven’t scored as much as I wanted to recently," James admitted to MUTV.

"Got off to a good start, but maybe not been at standards I wanted to be. Thanks to all the coaches and the manager trusting in me and for working with me everyday.

"I think I had that chance in the first-half and was obviously a bit gutted, but it was just about going out there and we said if you get the chance to drive, to have shots, and thankfully it went in."

When asked if the lack of goals had been affecting his performances lately James admitted it had weighed him down a bit.

He added: "It always does, but you have got to be head on. The games come thick and fast. Just every game you've got to improve and look back and what you can do more. I think as a player I give a lot more than goals, try to create, work hard for the team. Today it was about getting off the mark, and can I capitalise and get more now."
