Sky Sports give update to Leeds United fans about how to pause TV package

Sky Sports have performed a U-turn on their stance on fans' sports subscriptions after announcing they will allow customers to pause their packages during the break in the league season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Leeds United were due to play Cardiff City last Sunday and had been pencilled in to play on Sky, while their proposed next fixture for the league season is also due to be in front of the cameras at Blackburn Rovers on Friday, April 3 - the date currently pencilled in for the Whites' season resuming.

Schedules have been drastically impacted of late, with sporting fixtures and events around the world being postponed and cancelled due to the outbreak.

Sky had previously announced that they would not be offering customers a refund on their subscriptions, despite the Premier League and Football League suspending fixtures for at least three weeks.

But on Tuesday, they announced that subscribers to their sports channels can now pause their subscriptions without charge.

A statement from Sky read: "While we expect that many of the recently postponed sports events will eventually go ahead, if you wish to pause your sports subscription in the meantime you will not be charged a fee to do so or be held to any notice period.

"Meanwhile we continue to provide high quality content across all of our 11 sports channels."

Prior to the change in tact, Sky Sports managing director, Rob Webster said: “Sky Sports is working closely with all our partners to better understand the impact on the annual sporting calendar.

“We recognise that it is a fast-moving situation and we are working at speed to ensure we continue to deliver for all of our customers. A number of sporting events have been postponed, but not cancelled, so we expect to be able to show these when they are rescheduled.

“Therefore, our live schedule is likely to look different for a period of time. As more information becomes available, we will continue to provide updates to all of our customers.”
