In two days’ time, almost 200,000 people will pack themselves into the world’s biggest greenfield festival. And it’s set to rain. Under these conditions, preparedness is key.
If you’ve never been before, or you’re useless at packing, here’s a list of essential items you really should take with you – assuming you’ve already secured somewhere to stay (1 x tent: check), and have a ticket.
1.Ear plugs
You went to Glastonbury to hear your favourite musicians, and discover new bands. You didn’t go to hear incomprehensible late-night singing or a Prodigy-inspired mixtape on repeat at 5am when you’re trying to get some sleep.
2. An eyemask
The worst part of any festival morning is waking up desperately hungover with the sun searing through your tent, and then discovering it’s only 6am.
3. Wet wipes
It’s very important to remember that these aren’t biodegradable - thanks Saorsa for the tip – so please do dispose of, and use, responsibly.
4. A hipflask
Good for avoiding bar queues, and saving money.
5. Painkillers
6. Hayfever tablets
7. Portable phone chargers
8. Hidden money stash
9. A jumper
Useful for when it gets cold, but also for hiding in if you feel a bit fragile.
10. A waterproof coat with a hood / rain poncho
11. Waterproof footwear
12. Sunglasses
13. Suncream
14. A refillable water bottle
15. More socks than you think you’ll need
16. Big plastic bags
To put muddy items in on the way home. You can also use it to sit on. And you can wear it should the weather get really out of hand.
17. An emergency meeting point
Losing your friends at some point is inevitable.
18. Your toothbrush and toothpaste
19. Props for making new friends
It’s easy to make new friends at festivals, but it’s even easier if you have one of these items: a lighter, a bottle opener, a list of set-times, a map of the festival, chewing gum.
20. Your real friends’ phone numbers written down on a piece of paper
