A number of retailers are now starting to open their doors under strict social distancing guidelines following months of lockdown.
If you are hitting the shops over the Bank Holiday to pick up some essential items for your home, garden or to indulge in a bit of self-care, it's advisable to check opening times before heading out.
Major chains such as Wilko, Boots and M&S will be open, but operate shorter opening times than normal. While other chains such as Matalan are preparing to open stores whilst adhering to strict guidelines.
Below is a full breakdown of which stores are open and when over the Bank Holiday weekend.
What shops are open on May Bank Holiday 2020?
Boots

Boots stores are considered essential retailers and has been allowed to remain open throughout lockdown.
Opening and closing times on a majority of stores has changed, so check online at Boots.com before heading out.
Sunday 24 May: Normal Sunday opening times
Monday 25 May: Most stores open from 9am to 5pm. Some smaller stores will be closed
Marks and Spencer

Only M&S Foodhalls are currently open, and as a result some larger store opening hours have changed. The retailer is advising shoppers to check details online using the store finder tool online.
Sunday 24 May: Most UK stores open between 10am to 4pm
Monday 25 May: Most UK stores open between 9am to 6pm
M&S has also implemented special shopping hours for vulnerable customers and NHS staff. The first hour of trading on Mondays and Thursdays is reserved for our older and vulnerable customers, and on Tuesdays and Fridays for NHS, health and social care workers.
John Lewis

Much-loved premium department store John Lewis has closed all stores during the pandemic.
the retailer is advising shoppers to buy online at johnlewis.com, with the option of using the click and collect service at local Waitrose stores.

Matalan

Matalan has now opened a small number of stores across England. The 15 stores chosen are some of the more spacious stores with large homeware departments and a Click and Collect service.

Next

Popular high street chain is currently closed, but customers can currently shop items online at at next.co.uk with home delivery.

Monday 25 May: All stores closed
Next has already revealed its reopening plans once lockdown is lifted. The chain is also honouring late returns when stores open, so keep a hold of your receipt as you will have up to 14-days to complete returns.
Wilko

Wilko stores have remained open during lockdown, but stores are operating strict social distancing rules.
Sunday 24 May: Most stores open from 11am to 5pm.
Monday 25 May: Most stores open from 9am to 5pm. Some stores will open slightly later.
Most stores are now closing at 5pm to allow for essential cleaning, but it is advisable to check details for your local store using the online store locator tool.
Superdrug

Most Superdrug stores have remained open during the lockdown, with many operating reduced opening hours. Shoppers are advised to check details for their local branch online at superdrug.com.

Monday 25 May: Most stores open between 9am and 5pm. Some smaller stores will operate reduced opening times between 10am and 4pm.
B&M

Discount retailer B&M has been allowed to continue trading under Government guidelines throughout the lockdown.
The chain will be opening its stores, following strict social distancing rules, over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Monday 25 May: Most stores open between 8am and 8pm.

Ikea

Ikea decided to temporarily shut stores on Friday 20th March. Stores will remain closed for the foreseeable future but shoppers can buy items online at ikea.com.
Sunday 24 May: All stores closed
Monday 25 May: All stores closed
Ikea are operating contact-free home delivery on doorstep only and the chain has suspended its Order and Collection service as a precautionary measure.
